Regaining Movement and Independence with Parkinson’s
Mr. Chong was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease 10 years ago. For years, he managed his condition well, but by 2021, his son began to notice a significant decline. Simple tasks, like getting out of his chair, had become a monumental struggle.
His confident stride was replaced by a slow, shuffling gait, and he was often consumed by whole-body stiffness and pain. It was a difficult sight, and it was this worsening condition that led his son to seek out our professional help.
During our initial assessment, we observed severe whole-body stiffness and limited mobility, which made every movement a challenge for Mr. Chong—from simply shifting in bed to attempting to stand.
We know that Parkinson’s is a progressive disease, and a combination of medication and physiotherapy is crucial.
Slow its deterioration
Give Mr. Chong a greater sense of control over his body
Our treatment plan was designed specifically for Mr. Chong, combining key therapeutic techniques to restore his movement and confidence. We focused on a variety of exercises—from LSVT BIG to stretching and gait training—to target his strength, balance, and coordination.

A vital part of our strategy was also empowering his family. We educated them on his medication’s “ON” and “OFF” periods so they could encourage him to exercise during his most mobile times
Our ultimate goal was not just to improve his physical abilities but to restore his independence and prevent him from becoming fully dependent on his family.
The results were nothing short of inspiring. After just a few sessions, Mr. Chong’s walking improved remarkably, and he even began climbing stairs—a feat he hadn’t thought possible.
He continues his physiotherapy to this day, successfully maintaining his physical abilities and proving that with consistent effort and a dedicated plan, a better quality of life is not just possible, it’s achievable.
Mr. Chong’s journey taught us that a proactive approach is key to managing Parkinson’s.
If you or a loved one is living with the disease, here are a few things to consider:
Act Early: Don’t wait for symptoms to worsen. Starting physiotherapy early can make a profound difference, helping to slow the progression of symptoms and maintain mobility for a longer, more independent life.
Stay Consistent: Regular exercise, even in small amounts, is far more effective than infrequent, intense sessions. Small, daily habits build long-term strength and stability, making every day feel a little easier.
Empower Your Family: Rehabilitation is a team effort. Involving your family ensures consistent support and confidence not just during sessions, but in the comfort of your own home.
Communicate: Work closely with your professional care team (doctors and therapists). By communicating openly, you can create a comprehensive care plan that is tailored to your unique needs and evolves as you do.
